Radon testing in Milwaukee, WI
Certified 48-hour continuous electronic monitoring at the lowest habitable level, with results back by end of business on the final test day.
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas produced by the natural decay of uranium in soil and rock. It seeps through concrete slab floors and collects in basements and lower living areas of residential homes across Southeast Wisconsin. According to the CDC, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and 1 in every 15 homes has elevated radon levels. Testing is the only way to know your exposure.
At Homesight, Inc., we take the safety of our clients very seriously. Formed in 1997 and with more than 12,000 inspections completed, our certified radon technician handles everything: delivery, setup, calibration, pickup, analysis, and reporting. The testing fee is a small price to pay to rule out a serious health risk before you close on a home. Radon testing is $175 when added to a home inspection, or $225 as a standalone service.

Radon testing for Waukesha County homes
Radon occurs naturally across Southeast Wisconsin, in new homes and old alike, so a home's age or neighborhood tells you nothing about its level. From older Brookfield and Elm Grove ranches to new construction in Pewaukee and lake homes around Oconomowoc, our monitor goes in the lowest habitable area, usually the basement, where radon tends to be highest.
Radon is also the easiest test to fit into a Wisconsin home purchase. The state's standard offer to purchase, the WB-11, includes its own radon testing contingency, so you do not need to write separate testing terms the way you would for asbestos, lead, or mold. Your agent can confirm the deadlines that apply to your offer.
Our inspectors are in Waukesha County every day. Book radon testing with your Waukesha County home inspection, or read our guide to home inspection and radon testing in Waukesha. Questions? Call our Waukesha County line at (262) 522-0710.

Radon testing FAQ
What is radon and why should I test for it?
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas produced by the natural decay of uranium in soil and rock. It seeps into homes through concrete slab floors and collects in basements and lower living areas. According to the CDC, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and 1 in every 15 homes has elevated levels. Testing is the only way to know your actual exposure before you move in.
How is the radon test conducted?
A certified Homesight radon technician places a calibrated electronic continuous monitor in the lowest habitable area of your home. The device records radon concentration at regular intervals over a minimum 48-hour closed-house period. The technician handles all delivery, setup, calibration, pickup, and analysis, so there is nothing for you to coordinate.
How long does a radon test take?
The EPA requires a minimum 48-hour closed-house test. During the test period, exterior doors and windows must remain closed, except for normal entry and exit. The monitor runs continuously and captures an accurate average of the radon concentration in the home.
When will I receive the results?
Results are typically available by the end of business on the final test day. Homesight can email or fax the results to you, your real estate agent, or any other party who needs them. The report includes average concentration in pCi/L and a comparison to the EPA action level.
What is the EPA action level for radon?
The EPA recommends taking action to reduce radon if levels are at or above 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). If your results come back elevated, a radon mitigation contractor can install a sub-slab depressurization system to bring levels down. The Radon Protection Plan included with every home inspection covers up to $1,200 of that cost.
How much does radon testing cost?
Radon testing is $175 when added to a home inspection, or $225 as a standalone service. Every home inspection also includes a complimentary 6-month Radon Protection Plan providing up to $1,200 in coverage for mitigation system costs with a $250 deductible.
